What Is PRP Therapy?

Your Own Platelets, Precisely Placed.

Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed through our dual-centrifuge protocol, producing a platelet concentration 5–7× above baseline, then precisely injected into the affected joint under real-time ultrasound guidance.

Platelets carry growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF and IGF-1 that take part in the body's normal tissue-repair signaling. Whether, and how much, concentrated platelets improve joint symptoms is still being studied. Published results are mixed and vary by joint and condition.

PRP is an option to discuss, not a guaranteed result. For patients weighing alternatives to cortisone injections, viscosupplementation or surgery, PRP is one option your clinician may discuss after reviewing your history and imaging. It does not replace care from an orthopedic specialist.

The Evidence

What the Evidence Shows. Clinician-Administered.

PRP has been studied in orthopedic settings for more than a decade, with mixed results across trials. It is not FDA-approved to treat any joint condition, and many insurers consider it investigational. At Arbour Longevity we use dual-centrifuge processing and ultrasound guidance so each injection is prepared and placed consistently, and we discuss the current evidence openly at consultation.

5–7×

Platelet Concentration

Dual-centrifuge processing produces a platelet concentration about 5–7× baseline.

Mixed

Study Results Vary

Published studies of PRP for knee symptoms report a range of outcomes. Some show benefit over placebo or hyaluronic acid; others do not. We will discuss what this means for your situation.

100%

Ultrasound-Guided

Every Arbour Longevity PRP injection is performed under real-time ultrasound guidance, ensuring precise intra-articular placement, not approximation.

Varies

Duration of Effect

How long any improvement lasts differs from person to person. Some patients report benefit for several months; others notice little change.

Joints We Assess

One Protocol. Multiple Joints. Precisely Delivered.

PRP preparation for joint pain therapy

Most Common Request

Knee Joint

The knee is the joint patients most often ask about. Candidacy is decided after a clinical evaluation and review of any imaging.

Upper Body

Shoulder

Shoulder discomfort involving the rotator cuff, labrum or surrounding tendons is evaluated case by case before PRP is considered.

Weight-Bearing Joint

Hip

Hip discomfort is assessed with a functional exam and imaging review to determine whether PRP is an appropriate option.

Tendon Discomfort

Elbow

Discomfort on the outer or inner elbow, often related to tendon overuse, can be discussed at consultation.

Extremity Joints

Ankle, Foot & Wrist

Ankle, foot, wrist and hand discomfort are evaluated individually. Not every joint or condition is appropriate for PRP.

Premium Add-On

HA Knee Filler

Hyaluronic acid injection for the knee is a separate option that may be discussed alongside or instead of PRP where appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Patients Ask Us Most.

What makes dual-centrifuge PRP different from standard PRP?
+
-

Most PRP clinics use a single-spin centrifuge, producing about 2–3× platelet concentration. Arbour Longevity's dual-centrifuge protocol produces about 5–7× baseline concentration. Whether a higher platelet concentration improves outcomes is still being studied.

Why is ultrasound guidance important for PRP injections?
+
-

Studies show that palpation-guided joint injections can miss the intra-articular space in a meaningful share of cases, depending on the joint. Every Arbour Longevity injection is performed under real-time ultrasound visualization so the PRP is placed where intended.

How many PRP sessions will I need?
+
-

Many published protocols use a series of 3 injections spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Your clinician will recommend a single injection or a series based on your evaluation. Response varies, and some patients notice little change.

Is PRP covered by insurance?
+
-

PRP is not covered by most insurance plans, as many carriers classify it as investigational. Arbour Longevity operates as a cash-pay practice for PRP services. We accept HSA and FSA funds, and patient financing is available for qualified applicants.

How does PRP compare to cortisone injections?
+
-

Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory that typically provides short-term symptom relief. PRP uses your own concentrated platelets and works through a different mechanism; any improvement tends to develop gradually over several weeks. Neither is right for everyone, and your clinician will discuss which options fit your situation.

What is the recovery after a PRP injection?
+
-

Most patients experience mild soreness and swelling at the injection site for 24–72 hours; this is a normal, expected reaction to the injection. Activity modification is recommended for 48–72 hours. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days, with gradual return to sport or strenuous activity guided by symptom response over 2–4 weeks.

Regenerative Medicine in Ann Arbor

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a small sample of your own blood and concentrates the platelets and the growth factors they carry. At Arbour Longevity in Ann Arbor, PRP is delivered by a triple board certified clinician and offered only after a clinical evaluation, not sold as a package. PRP is not FDA-approved to treat any disease or condition; the evidence is still developing and results vary from person to person.

What we offer

How PRP is prepared matters

Platelet-rich plasma is not a standardised product. Platelet concentration, the presence or absence of white cells, and the spin protocol all change what you actually receive. Arbour uses a dual-centrifuge protocol to produce a higher, more consistent platelet concentration than single-spin systems typically achieve. Whether a higher concentration improves outcomes is still being studied.

Honest expectations

PRP is an option to discuss, not a guaranteed result. Published studies report mixed outcomes, and some patients notice no change. Advanced structural damage on imaging generally responds less predictably, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a series. Any response typically develops over weeks, not overnight. PRP does not replace care from an orthopedic specialist.

Why Arbour Longevity IV Therapy Is Different

Vitamins Alone Have a Ceiling. A Clinical Protocol Doesn't.

IV vitamin therapy has a ceiling. The ceiling is defined by what can be administered without a clinician, and it stops well short of what Arbour Longevity can offer. The difference is clinical depth, and it is the difference between a wellness service and a medical protocol that produces measurable outcomes.

Arbour Longevity can prescribe and administer Toradol, Zofran, and Benadryl intravenously. These are prescription medications that require a licensed clinician to administer, and what make our Pain & Migraine and Hangover Recovery Signature Drips produce results that vitamins alone never achieve.

Arbour Longevity IV protocols are integrated with our longevity medicine programs. NAD+ IV is part of your peptide therapy protocol. Our Metabolic Reset supports your weight loss program. The Myers' Cocktail complements your functional medicine micronutrient repletion. This is not a menu of isolated drips, it is a clinical system.

The Arbour Longevity Rx Advantage

Clinician-Prescribed. A Different Class of IV Therapy.

Most IV wellness providers are limited to vitamins and minerals. Arbour Longevity can prescribe and administer prescription medications intravenously. That difference is clinical, not cosmetic.

Toradol delivered intravenously produces rapid anti-inflammatory pain relief within minutes. Zofran IV resolves nausea faster than any oral antiemetic. Benadryl IV supports migraine adjunct therapy. These are the prescription-grade compounds that make our Signature Drips produce outcomes that vitamin infusions alone cannot achieve.

IV Nutrient Therapy

IV nutrient therapy is part of the regenerative program at Arbour Longevity, not a separate service. NAD+ infusions support cellular repair and energy production alongside PRP and other regenerative work. The Myers Cocktail, immune support and recovery drips are used to close nutrient gaps that limit healing, with prescription add-ons available under clinician supervision. Drips start from $175, and NAD+ is dosed at 250, 500 or 1000mg. Every infusion is given in a private suite and matched to what your protocol requires.
